"Children find great joy in seeing their parents use their imaginations; in seeing them play."
I have noticed this with my own children- I have a 2 1/2 yr. old and a 1 yr. old and boy do they keep me busy! Oftentimes I find myself too busy cleaning the house, changing their diapers, trying to get ready myself... to really take the time to sit and just PLAY with them. Lately my 2 year old will just pull my hand away from whatever I'm doing and say, "Mommy, come play with me?" And how can I resist? That's really when my day goes better anyway. :)
There's an article I recently read titled, "Parents are forgetting how to play with their children, study shows" (found here http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/aug/26/parents-children-playtime). Basically it's talking about how one in five parents have forgotten how to play with their child, or they find it dull or boring to play with them. It also mentions that parents don't know what their child expects from them, or how they would like to play with them.
ENTER Let's Play Music. :) (You knew it was coming!!) As I'm sure you are aware, we thrive on play- it is innate in every child to want to PLAY and have fun. And how much MORE fun is it, to have a playmate- and especially your own mom or dad?? The first year of Let's Play Music gives parents an opportunity to come every other week to class with their child to learn, sing and play with them. This precious moment in class should also be expanded to practicing with your child during the week and re-living that fun and exciting experience you both shared in class. Be silly together! Laugh with each other! Sing the songs and dance together!! This is really what makes the program magical, and why it is so fun for everyone involved. ENJOY your children and this wonderful age where they will laugh and play and love you all the more for doing it with them. "Boom boom ain't it great to be CRAZY??" :)
